Comprehensive Ambler PA Kids Gymnastic Program Provides Progressively Structured Classes For Growth

By Fernando Ketter

Parents delight at watching the toddlers and tots learning to line up in an orderly way. As each performs a rudimentary somersault, they dream of going to competitions. The children progress from those early classes all the way to an advanced level at Ambler PA Childrens Gymnastics.

First classes focus on the sheer enjoyment of moving around in specific ways. Instead of being told to sit still, they are encouraged to move. They hop, jump and try to do somersaults and cartwheels in a rough simulation of the real thing.

By the time they start intermediate classes, they will be doing a forwards somersault and a back somersault. Their cartwheels will be performed with straight arms and legs and pointed toes. They will take pride in the outcome of all their efforts.

Along the way they are learning the names for the tricks and the equipment they will be using to perform some of them. A floor exercise is a tumbling run done to music and professionally choreographed. An arabesque position raises one leg up behind the child at a 45 degree angle to the rest of the body.

A balance beam is a four-inch wide wooden apparatus that requires the girls to exhibit great agility. They maintain their balance while doing acrobatics, leaps and turns and land on the beam without falling. A dismount is done gracefully and completed with arms raised and feet firmly on the floor.

Beginners start on a beam that is slightly higher than the floor. In the advanced classes, it is four feet above the floor. This is the required height in competitions.

Boys perform leg swings and changes in position on the pommel horse. It is a rectangular shaped apparatus and has two handles called pommels. Boys show great strength and graceful controlled movements at the advanced level.

The older children in the advanced classes may enter competitions. Regional competitions are open only to those from specific countries. National competitions are open to those living in a specific country. The advanced students compete at a high-school and college level. Those classified as elite are talented enough to dream of some day going to compete in the Olympics.
