Implified Acquisition Program Wins Millions Of Dollars For Registered Government Contractors

By Max Timko

US Federal Contractor Registration, the world's largest and most respected third party registration firm has helped over 65,000 businesses become registered for government contracts. Businesses must be registered in System for Award Management (SAM) prior to bidding on government contracts. However, just because a business registers in SAM does not mean the contracts will start pouring in. It is important that federally registered government vendors have an active government-marketing program to help establish their brand to government buyers across the nation.

Simplified Acquisition contracts are government contracts that range in size between $2,500 and $150,000. However specific industries in procurement can be awarded simplified acquisition contracts that are worth up to $6.5 million. Simplified Acquisition contracts improve opportunities for small, small disadvantaged, women-owned, veteran-owned, HUBZone, and service-disabled veteran-owned small business concerns to obtain a fair proportion of government contracts. While simplified acquisition contracts aid small businesses they can also offer large businesses another way of earning federal dollars in the federal marketplace.

Procurement officers can use a federally recognized credit card because simplified acquisition contracts require very little to no paperwork to justify the cost of the purchase. All large government contracts that exceed the simplified acquisition threshold must be recorded and documented in the Federal Awardee Performance and Integrity Information System (FAPIIS), which will later be reviewed in the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS), or at USASpending.gov. Simplified acquisition contracts and low level micro-purchases do not need to be documented or recorded in FAPIIS.

US Federal Contractor Registration Simplified Acquisition Programs first step is conducted by a live Acquisition Specialist that will perform a Federal Marketplace Evaluation for each business. The Federal Market Evaluation is the beginning preliminary test to determine if a business will qualify for government contracting. Some businesses have a past record that may hinder their entrance into the federal marketplace or lack the competitive skills to excel in the market.

The purpose of simplified acquisition program is to reduce amministrative costs; while improving opportunities for small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, women-owned businesses, veteran-owned businesses, HUBZone businesses, and service-disabled veteran-owned small business concerns. The program is designed to award a fair proportion of Government contracts to the above businesses based on the Federal mandates along with promoting efficiency and economy in contracting, and avoid unnecessary burdens for agencies /contractors.
