Information For How To Get Into Ivy League Colleges

By Olivia Cross

The term Ivy League started around 1930. It was originally the name given to a football league that included prominent colleges in the Northeast of the United States. Today, the term has less to do with sports than with the reputation of the schools for their academic rigor and professional achievements. These colleges are known for their exclusivity and they are not easy to get into. If you are interested in learning how to get into ivy league colleges, then you should research as much as possible to improve your chances of admission.

The Ivy League includes Brown, Harvard, Columbia, Dartmouth, Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania, Yale and Princeton universities. Many of these schools are among the top ten colleges in the U. S. They consistently achieve the top spots in national college rankings, which is why they are so sought after by students.

In ninth grade, they must pay special attention to their GPA and take the most challenging courses they can handle. If the school offers AP courses, they should enroll in them. Now is the time to do well in academics and extracurricular activities.

If your son or daughter is a high-achieving student, they may do well at one of these schools. However, an Ivy League education is not the only path to success and wealth for students. It is important that parents remember this and that they do not place unhealthy pressure on their child to be accepted to one of these schools.

Some parents hire private college counselors who charge a fee to coach and tutor a student through the admissions process. They offer advice and guidance as to what to do and what to expect. Many of these private counselors are former admissions officers from the Ivy League. However, they often charge thousands of dollars for their services.

If you do not want to take the SAT, you can take the ACT exam instead; however, most Ivy League colleges look for SAT scores. Many high school students achieve perfect scores on the SAT, so you need to ensure that your score is as high as possible if you want to be admitted to the more competitive colleges.

It also helps to start early. This means getting together the money for college and saving as much as possible. You also need to think about long-term planning and what activities a student can get involved with to make their application more competitive.

Remember that there are many good colleges and universities in Stamford, CT and other places, so high school seniors should not feel that they all need to get into this small group of schools only. The students who want to be chosen must have a good admissions plan. They must also have a strong student profile and lots of helpful advice from teachers and counselors.
