Reliable Tips About How To Come Up With A Resume For Slightly Older Workers

By George Dodson

The best performance always comes out from constant practice and training. Workwise, experience would be the foundation of a great quality work. Despite how old or how young you maybe, you'll have a better chances of being hired by employers if you have relevant experience in line to the position you are looking to fill. Despite the experience however, some older workers are having a hard time when it comes to getting a job. So what seems to be the problem? The resume is to blame for this problem. It is a fact that the resume is the one thing that employers look first in an applicant and it is really not easy for an older worker to have a good resume despite the number of experience however in this article we'll give you tips on how to pass this obstacle.

Format

One of those things you may want to be careful about when creating a resume is the format. Usually, a resume has a format composed of the educational background on the first page, work experience and seminars attended on the second then skills on the last page. For first time job seekers, this is the kind of format they usually use. This can be a good format for people looking for their first job however this is not very advisable for older workers who probably already have a few jobs in the past. For older workers, it would be better have the skills enumerated on the first page and then on the second page would contain the long list of work experience, training sessions attended or seminars. The educational background will just be according to preference and if you choose to include it on the first page, you need to shorten it to just a few lines.

Dates

One thing in the resume that could distract employers are the dates. As an example, if the hiring manager or interviewer sees that the date of graduation in your educational background dates back 20 years ago, they would immediately question your outdated skills and knowledge. As much as possible, employers want people with fresh skills and knowledge that matches today's business needs for the reason that these are more productive and efficient. Instead of having the dates on your resume for the educational background and work experiences, you can simply have the years studied or worked.

You should point out your eagerness to learn

You are definitely an expert in so many things already as you've worked through many companies before however you should still be willing to learn. The eagerness of an applicant to learn new things is something that employers are looking forward to hear. What they want for their company is a staff that wants to grow with their company. You can show your willingness to further improve your skills and learn by emphasizing on your recent training and seminars attended.

Work ethics

Compared to the younger generation of workers that we have today, older workers obviously have better work ethic. You need to point out that you are loyal, responsible as well as very much interested in growing with the company.

Be confident

One more thing to consider when writing your resume is that you should have confidence. Make sure that you pick your words or content in your resume and they should express your confidence. A good way to do this is by emphasizing these words on the work experience part of your resume. Use words such as I supervised, I managed, I controlled, I spear-headed and others while you write the job descriptions.
