The Way To Properly Gain Friends On Your Work Place

By George Dodson

The work place is often called the second home or second family for the reason that the time spent on this place is almost the same if not more than the time spent at home with one's real family. It is inevitable that we build a good relationship with our co-workers which makes us close to them like families. What many people do not know is that having families at work is indeed helpful and does provide a lot of benefits. Having said these, one should always make sure to earn friends in the office or workplace.

Usually, there will be days when you have too much work and you just don't have enough time - thus, a friend who can help would be a great relief. Friends at work can also help you emotionally - there are those workers that bring their problems to the office thus compromising their work. By simply talking to friends at work, one is able to vent out emotions and a good solution can be sought. In addition, if you're aspiring to get to a position you can also rely on your friends at work to tell you what you need to know and what you need to have. These are just a few of the tons of rewards of having friends at work. The main question however is 'how can you make friends at work?'. If you think you don't have the skills and the confidence to make one, be sure to read the tips below.

First impressions last

This is a practical tip which applies to any situation or condition just as long as you are meeting a person or persons for the first time - always leave a good impression. This is the moment when you can leave a mark in the other person's mind so he or she can remember you. To leave a good impression however doesn't mean you have to show off. There will be a lot of approaches to leaving a good first impression which include tactics like being funny, awkward, smarty and anything else just as long as it is constructive or positive.

Give your name or nickname

Upon introduction with staff members in your workplace, be sure to state your name clearly or give your nickname if possible. By simply giving your name or nickname when introduced you can already have a good starting point in getting friends at work. Should have a long first and last name, you can just opt for a nickname. Try to keep it short and if possible catchy or easy to remember.

Eat lunch with others

One thing that you should also remember with regard to earning friends in the office is to say yes to eat out invites if possible. Lunch breaks or coffee breaks are the only times when you can socialize at work. Thus whenever you are not too busy, be sure to go with colleagues whenever you are invited for a lunch out. Not only will this gesture let others think that you are interested in getting to know other people but will also let them know that you can be approached.

Try to share your thoughts to your colleagues

If you want to earn a good friend at work, you will also need to be open to them. This will cover having to talk about your personal experiences, opinions, views and even secrets. Its not necessary that you give away all the details about you, you should also have a limit of what you will open up or share to others.
