Learn How To Work As A Voice Artist

By Timothy Brown

The entertainment industry as a whole requires the services of many different styles of acting. It needs people who are trained to work on the stage, in feature films, advertising, television shows, and a lot of other areas that may not be as instantly known. This creates a growing market for those who choose to be a voice artist.

Each type of acting has its own specific requirements and performance elements. This is especially true when it comes to the various styles of vocal arts. Such skills are used in many different ways including animated movies, video games, television and radio commercials, telephone advertising, and the list just keeps going.

Contrary to popular opinion, there is a lot of preparation, hard work and health maintenance that goes into the vocal acting. In this job, a person's sound is what is important, and their looks are inconsequential. To ensure that one gives a quality performance each and every time, they will need to avoid straining their chords and continue to train themselves to improve on a regular basis.

Anyone considering entering this field would be advised to first invest in some high quality vocal training. One should choose an instructor that has plenty of experience working with people in this profession. Such classes will help an actor learn how to breathe properly, control speech breaks, and pronounce words and sounds clearly.

The next thing one would need to do is to make a demo tape, that shows their full ability range, to submit with each resume'. The best results generally come when someone has this done in a professional studio, which will cancel out any distracting background noise and clean up the technical imperfections. Most clients now require that these types of submissions be done either as digital media or put onto a CD.

Finding jobs is much easier once one has chosen an area and a level to concentrate on. International, National, Regional, and Local are the four basic categories in this acting genre. Each one is a viable source of income with its own set of rewards, challenges, and requirements.

Once one has decided which level and genre they are going to work in, it is time to start sending out demo tapes and resume's. The key to this part of the process is to apply for as many jobs as possible, and to have patience in getting accepted. There are thousands of people interested in the same roles, so diligence and perseverance are key factors to getting noticed and gaining profitable employment.

Video games, public announcements, children's programming. Television commercials, animated features, radio ads, GPS systems and so much more. Provide endless possibilities for vocal actors. All different sounding voices are needed, so even those who sound rough, beautiful, strange or unique, can all find work. Advantages are gained by receiving regular training, submitting a professionally recorded demo tape, and being persistent and diligent when sending out resume's and applying for a lot of roles.
